What is conservation framing?
At Folly Framing conservation is at the forefront of everything we do. This is to ensure that the framing and materials we use do not cause any harm to the artwork, and that the things we do are reversible.
This also means that the materials I use are not only free from substances that may harm your artwork, but will stand the test of time. This includes the moulding, mounts, tapes and adhesives as well as the techniques we use. All of my frames have a minimum expected lifespan of 30 years and should last far beyond this with proper care. Many products are labelled as “conservation” or “acid free” but may still have properties that can put your artwork at risk. Folly Framing is a member of The Fine Art Trade Guild They work with the manufacturers and experts in the field to set standards and deliver training to understand exactly what is appropriate for an individual piece of art.
All this goes to ensure that your frame does not devalue your artwork in the future or damage your enjoyment of it.
Whilst not all items will be of great financial value, many items that come in for framing are of immeasurable personal value to their owners. All items are handled as precious and irreplaceable. Full professional insurance is also in place for the reassurance of our customers.
As part of the protection of your items we also offer specialist glazing with increased UV protection and also reduced reflection. Whilst not all damage to art comes from UV light, many may benefit from this extra care and we can talk you through all the options and advantages of these.
